the story & philosophy

In 2015, I completed a UAL Art & Design foundation year in Norwich, there I discovered ceramics during a workshop held by my mentor, good friend and talented teacher Marion Stuart. I continued classes at thier pottery studio, StudioDo. Throughout my nurse training at the University of East Anglia, I explore the process of hand building, wheel throwing and firing. In 2018 I became a member, exploring locally run artisan markets, selling locally. My work is designed around functionality, if I needed it, I would make it.

The philosophy of my ceramics focus on slow living in everyday life, the intention to stop, breathe, reflect, and enjoy the use of the ceramic process and outcome, which in comparison to my nursing career is quite the opposite. My ceramic pieces are stocked by a number of small independent shops across Norfolk and Suffolk in the UK.

Recently acquiring a shared ceramic studio between myself and By Noo, we have developed and refined out creative thought into pieces used in everyday life. I seek inspiration from our beautiful North Norfolk coastlines and landscapes to form, glaze and fire functional home and tableware in a collective studio using a traditional practice that references organic aesthetics. Alternating between hand building and wheel thrown pottery, I produce minimalist pieces that reference slow living and one’s ability to create a look that is conscious, intentional, mindful, and sustainable. Drawing on organic and natural colour pallets of the clay such as off white, earthy creams, and beiges, I establish a neutral ambience that explores the concept of ethical living and sourcing local inspiration in abundance.
